Women scientists are healers like mother earth: Melissa Skerrit
Melissa Poponne-Skerrit, Dominica's Parliament Representative from Roseau Central, congratulated people on the "International Day of Women and Girls in Science."

In a photo shared on her official social media handles, Parliament Representative wrote, "We acknowledge the participation of "Women Scientists" at the forefront in a fight against COVID-19. These women are not just warriors, but they are the future of our bright world. Happy International Day of Women and Girls in Science."
She referred to women scientists as healers like mother earth. She noted that "Women scientists are just like "Mother Earth", the healers, the warriors, and the leaders" She also runs "Melissa Skerrit- Foundation," which is created to alleviate poverty, promote healthy living, wellness, and education for marginalized individuals on the island of Dominica.Mrs. Melissa Skerrit is personally involved in all aspects of the charity and is well respected and recognized for her longstanding commitment to disadvantaged persons.
Among her many initiatives is the “Elderly Love Care Program”, “Back to School Scholarship”, “School Feeding Program” and “Bless a Baby”.
The foundation is dependent on donations from corporations and generous benefactors and, as a result, has transformed the lives of thousands in Dominica.
The small island nation of the Commonwealth of Dominica is moving forward in its healthcare and science sector. It is also among the first Caribbean countries to have possession of coronavirus vaccination, which landed in the country on Tuesday evening.
The country is all equipped to vaccinate half of its population with 70,000 doses. The Astra-Zeneca Oxford vaccine arrived from India as the countries share good bilateral ties.
The registration to get vaccinated are also starting from 22 February onwards, and the first phase is expected to complete in April 2021.
