It will be another blow to people if Dominica loses its name for peace and security says PM Skerrit

Sunday, 24th November 2019

Dominica Labour Party hosted a rally in the St. Joseph parliamentary constituency, where the party leader and the Prime Minister of Commonwealth of Dominica Dr Roosevelt Skerrit addressed the nation and condemned the recent riots and clashes that took place in the capital city Roseau on Tuesday evening.

Dr Skerrit said that opposition and UWP leader Lennox Linton is trying to destroy the name of Dominica in attempt to stop the electoral process. The leader warned the public about the opposition party’s intentions.

DLP leader said that the desperation of opposition and its foreign agent supporters are using all they can do within their power to legitimise their lies by using international organisations.

“I have been informed that Al Jazeera intends to do a documentary about alleged sales of diplomatic passports in Dominica, the allegations were sent to me and as I have noticed and you will also notice that the allegations are very same ones that UWP and MasintheCemetry have been making up from years.” added Skerrit.

The opposition party has been demanding electoral reforms to be implemented before the general elections are conducted, and they have been trying to create a vicious atmosphere in the country to create pressure on the government.

Dr Skerrit said that the opposition is trying to get external influences to either take over the national electoral process or stop the elections and hand over to Linton. “He cannot lead the country by winning the ballot box, so he is attempting to get foreigners to give him what the people of Dominica knows he cannot manage and does not deserve.”

Dr Skerrit condemned UWP for creating violence on the streets of the nation. He said that the country had visits from foreign delegations, secretaries and even his royal highness. If Dominica is not safe, then nobody will intend to visit this beautiful nature isle. “If Dominica loses its reputation for peace, good governance and security, that another blow will be delivered to our people, our tourism product and our economy.”

Tourism revenue works as a support system for any Caribbean nation, and the same goes for this small island Dominica. However, after the recent riots US Embassy, Barbados also issued a travel alert for its citizens planning to visit Dominica. United Worker Party’s desperation and cruel intentions are not only affecting the citizens of the country but are also targeting to ruin the economic growth of the country which was recovered through enormous hard work after Hurricane Maria devastated it in the year 2017.
