US fashion mag lists reasons to visit 'unique' Dominica
Writer says Nature Island is sure to ‘shock and delight’

A glossy American fashion magazine has highlighted the tourism offering in Dominica, labelling it the one Caribbean island you've likely never visited.
Anthony Berklich, writing in Harper’s Bazaar, describes the “uncharted territory” of Dominica as “a refreshing concept”.
“With untouched rainforests, secret coves and vibrant, local culture, this island has much more to offer than basic beaches and all-inclusive resorts,” he writes.
Anthony Berklich is the founder of luxury and experiential travel platform Inspired Citizen.
He travels an average of 200,000 miles a year to over 80 countries, and has been featured in a number of publications – including Fox News and the Los Angeles Times.
Berklich recommends a long weekend for first-time visitors to the year-round destination.
And the under-the-radar feel could change in the next few years, “with a new international airport in the works, there may be even more direct flights”, he writes.

Jurassic Park
Dominica stands among its Caribbean neighbours for lacking the white sand beaches and pina colada sipping spots.
But the lush green that covers the island – Berklich describes it as looking like Jurassic Park from the air – hide a slice of something different in the region – which is "a good thing".
“Don’t go for buffet dinners and swim-up pool bars. Go for adventure. Go for solitude. Go for the opportunity to indulge in something completely unique and entirely different than the Caribbean you know and have enjoyed in many iterations in the past,” said the writer.
Berklich recommends staying in Secret Bay, Portsmouth, which he says is the “best hotel on the island”.
But he points to the Kempinski, which is currently being constructed alongside Douglas Bay, as something that will add to the island’s luxury establishments in the future.
As for what to do, the travel consultant mentions Boiling Lake, boating around the island, and whale watching as some of the top lures.
