Trinidad: Man found dead with multiple gunshots, father suspects debt-related motive
The victim's father, Ralph Edwards, says that a debt led to the murder of his 40-year-old son.

A man identified as Lalchan Edwards, aka Sanchez, was found shot to death in Hibiscus Drive, Smart Avenue, Penal, in an area known as "Dog Patch" on Wednesday, 31st January 2024. The victim's father, Ralph Edwards, says that a debt led to the murder of his 40-year-old son.
According to the reports, residents heard a series of loud explosions on Wednesday night, but it was not until Thursday morning that Edwards' body was found in Trinidad's Penal.Police officers and homicide detectives cordoned off the crime scene where the body of Lalchan Edwards was discovered on Wednesday.
A relative who at the murder scene also reported that he has seen the body and it was riddled with multiple gunshot wounds. The relatives of Edwards found out about the murder from a resident who called them around 10 30 am on Thursday.
The preliminary investigations have reported that Edwards was last seen in the area on Tuesday as he was working on the demolition of a house.According to his father, he was a good tradesman and hard worker but also used drugs, which pushed him into taking money from someone.
In a statement, Ralph Edwards said that his son used to come and smoke here, and he owed somebody money, and he told him to give the money back and finish this debt with them.
He also added that the last time he saw his son at his home at Barrackpore, he had money with him, but he didn't know whether or not he would come here to return that money.Ralph Edwards wept as he said that he had warned his son not to venture into the area because he felt he would be in danger by the police.
