Tourists cautioned, as protests erupts in St Martin
Protests in St Martin erupted on Thursday after people in the french side of the isle aggressively demonstrated against the final PPRN report. Concerning the safety of the tourists enjoying their holiday on the island, the director of tourism recently issued a statement.
Valérie Damaseau Aida Weinum, Director of Tourism, said that it the priority of the department is to make sure that visitors choose St Martin even as their subsequent vacation, which is why significant measures are being regarded to assure the protection of the vacationists.
"To our hotel and villa associates, we advise recommending that visitors abstain from attempting out on tours and enjoy their amenities and activities on-property or in the walking distance until the additional announcement." added Valérie Damaseau Aida Weinum.
As per Weinum, the officials are thoroughly monitoring the situation, and further updates will be provided once the traffic resumes to normal.
Following the violent unrest, the Anguilla and Sea Ports Authority also issued a statement to travellers informing about the temporary closure of the port.
Furthermore, Blowing Point Ferry Port will remain open as the ships to St Maarten, Netherland Antilles will be operational; nevertheless, entrance to St Maarten by the Sandy Ground (St Martin) connection is restrained.
Besides this, Grand Case Airport (St Martin) is open, and travellers wishing to reach St Martin or different tour destinations may use the Clayton J Lloyd International Airport.
