St Vincent and the Grenadines: PM Gonsalves offers land for youth to farm at $1 per year
PM Gonsalves announced that he is making available 5 acres of land to many young farmers across the country to get into agriculture

The Prime Minister of St Vincent and the Grenadines, Ralph Gonsalves, announced that he is making available 5 acres of land to many young and not-so-young farmers across the country to get into agriculture.
He made this significant announcement on Tuesday and said that an agreement would be made with the ones who are interested in land for just $1 per year. While making the announcement, PM Gonsalves said, "Any two, three, four, five young people or not-so-young persons who want five acres of land to work. I have some lands out in the country."He added that he would allow them to work on it themselves, and all they had to do was agree with him.
"They have to pay me just $1 for the whole year with an agreement. Because I want what you have. I don't want you to be on it without the agreement you think is your land is my own," noted the Prime Minister. He said that he made a similar announcement in October 2023 but no one came forward so he is making the appeal again to come forward and take benefit of his huge opportunity to work and make a living.
As the St Vincent PM made the announcement, the citizens and residents were lauded for this smart initiative, which will benefit so many young people who are unemployed in the country."Good start, but this needs to be integrated into a national agricultural land bank plan," wrote a user named Creese Inga, while another user said, "Good gesture for the young folk."
Several others also said that they will be using the opportunity and will get the land from the Prime Minister. It is to be noted that with this initiative, the Prime Minister aims to boost young people's participation in the agricultural sector so that the country can produce as much as it can locally and can also export the produce to the neighboring countries.
