St Lucia: Focusing on the economic hardship faced by many families in St Lucia, the government has announced the annual barrel concessions for the year 2021, allowing families to lend a helping hand during this time. The government has decided to implement it two weeks earlier this year.During a press release, Prime Minister Philip J Pierre set that St Lucia Cabinet of ministers has approved the grant of concessions on barrels imported between in November 1, 2021 and January 31, 2022. The concessions have been implemented in accordance to terms and conditions.
There will be a 100% waiver of import duty on personal items, including food, clothing, toys and other household consumables. However, electronic are excluded from this.
The number of barrels that would qualify for concession are limited to two (2) per household.
The government has also limited the maximum of EC $2,500 per barrel on the value of products or items that can qualify for concessions.The items or products in barrels must be for personal use only, no item can be used as commercial. In case, an item(s) is used as commercial use there would be usual penalties, fines etc. would be applied.
The barrels imported during the specified period would be exempted from Value Added Tax (VAT).
