Senior Minister and Minister of Labour, the Honourable Vance Amory, will share the St. Kitts and Nevis perspective on matters relating to “The Future of Work” when he addresses the General Assembly at the 108th Session of the International Labour Conference (ILC).
The address, slated for June 18 at 12 p.m. A.S.T., is part of the Centenary Session, which runs from June 10-21, 2019, in Geneva, Switzerland. The conference, also known as the “world parliament of labour,” is being attended by approximately 6,000 delegates representing governments, workers, and employers from the International Labour Organization’s (ILO) 187 member states.
Joining Senior Minister Amory at the conference are several members of the National Tripartite Committee. They are Ron Dublin-Collins, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Labour, and Lucinda Francis, Head of the Employment Unit in the Department of Labour, representing the government; Emile Ferdinand representing employers; and Sydney Bridgewater representing workers. Funding for the full delegation was provided by the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis.
The delegation will engage in a number of group meetings specific to the three individual bodies of the Tripartite Committee. Senior Minister Amory is also expected to focus on the ongoing concerns of the ILO relating to decent work for all and the dignity of workers and efforts to manage future changes.
The ILC is expected to consider the international response to challenges facing workers and countries generally posed by demographic changes, technology and climate change among other matters affecting economic development, which could have negative impact on workers.
