St Kitts and Nevis weathered COVID-19 pandemic better than most countries: PM Harris

St Kitts and Nevis: Celebrating Easter, Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Timothy Harris, expressed gratefulness to God for keeping the federation safe from the global pandemic.

“We are grateful to God that St Kitts and Nevis has so far weathered the COVID-19 pandemic better than most countries.”

During his Easter message, Dr Harris emphasised on impact of Coronavirus and the national economy. He said that whether the country has been so far successful in tackling the coronavirus pandemic, referring to it as a long road to recovery and growth sustainability.

He also discussed the vaccination programme of the federation, with 9,241 people inoculated from the global pandemic. “Our Federation is witnessing the early signs of a post-COVID-19 renewal.”

Boasting the governments’ efforts to revive the economy, Prime Minister said that the economy of St Kitts and Nevis is strengthening with new opportunities, including the emergence of the film industry. “We witness the strong confidence in my government’s leadership with a record number of business licenses approved and at least three (3) hotels and high-end residential properties set to open later this year. A luxury villa development has commenced construction and works are advanced for the groundbreaking for a new modern condo-hotel.”

He added that people are putting their community at the top priority as more and more people are coming up forward to take the vaccine, including youngsters, as it is not only important for them but all the people around them as well. “People say they are getting vaccinated because they want to protect their families, they want to protect their friends and they want to protect their community.”

Taxi drivers and hotel employees are also participating in new health-conscious stay over-tourism and the famous cruise industry of St Kitts and Nevis. All the participant involved in the tourism industry are getting vaccinated to provide better security to the visitors.

“The more people vaccinated, and the sooner you get vaccinated, the quicker we will be in that post-COVID-19 new world.”

Recalling last year’s Easter when St Kitts and Nevis prayed that the pandemic would not cause anyone to die, “This year let us give thanks that those prayers were answered and we can now look forward to that new beginning of what we expect to be a sustainable economic recovery.
