The leaders of St Kitts and Nevis are proudly celebrating thirty-five years of service of one of the nation's icons and political giants – Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Denzil Douglas. Since March 1989 to March 2024, Dr Douglas has worked consistently to enhance the Federation at various levels.

To congratulate him for achieving this milestone and for always looking towards new ways to uplift the country, Deputy Prime Minister Dr Geoffrey Hanley said that he is an extraordinary human being who has demonstrated his love for the people of St Kitts and Nevis time and again.

Deputy PM Hanley noted that he had been personally influenced by the lessons Minister Douglas has taught him and other budding politicians and added, "I am a direct product of his tutelage. Surely, I stand on the shoulders of selfless leaders like Dr Douglas."

Dr Hanley expressed his gratitude to Minister Denzil Douglas and said, "Thanks for your rock solid leadership and thanks for continuing to give unselfishly to the development of this twin island nation state, St Kitts and Nevis."

In addition to this, on March 18, the leaders including Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew hosted a surprise toast for Dr Douglas at the Parliamentary Lounge of Government Headquarters. The toast was held to celebrate with the Minister on the occasion of his 35th anniversary.

Also, Minister Joyelle Clarke took to Facebook to congratulate the Minister and said, "On 21 March 2024, Dr Denzil Llewellyn Douglas celebrates 35 years as a Member of Parliament, having been elected in 1989 by the people of St Christopher #6: Newton Ground, St Paul's, Dieppe Bay, Parsons, Saddlers & Harris'."

Minister of Sports and Agriculture Samal Duggins, while congratulating Dr Douglas, said, "Thirty-five years in the life of anyone or organization is by no means a meagre feat! Today marks 35 years of exceptional leadership and service by the Rt. Hon. Dr Denzil Douglas to the people of St Kitts and Nevis. Your journey from March 1989 to 2024 has been marked by resolute dedication, innovative policies, and a deep sense of compassion for all citizens." As the Chair of the 35th Anniversary Committee, she welcomed the Minister to give a congratulatory message in celebration of his dedication to making a difference in the Constituency and in the Federation of St Kitts and Nevis as a whole.

Dr Denzil Douglas also launched his second book on Thursday to commemorate the significant event. The book named 'Making a Difference' is based on the Minister's services and his long political journey in St Kitts and Nevis.

Notably, Dr Douglas is the longest serving Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis and served from 1995 to 2015. His political career began at an early age in 1979 when he became the first Young Labour Representative to sit on the National Executive of the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party.
