COVID-19 cases again on rise in St Kitts and Nevis

Basseterre: The coronavirus cases in St Kitts and Nevis are again on the rise, with the country recording 144 new cases in recent days. Prime Minister Timothy Harris warned people that the pandemic is not over and everyone must remain cautious and adhere to COVID-19 protocols. The Ministry of Health St Kitts and Nevis is also monitoring additional 88 individuals. As per authorities, a recent spike has been witnessed in the last two weeks, with a large number of people testing positive after May 20.

In a recent statement, the Health Ministry reported that the majority of these cases are adults, citing that around 78.4 percent of people in this age group are vaccinated, lowering the risk of infections, while 18 percent are children from 12 to 17 years old age groups are fully vaccinated. In total, 56.7 percent of people in the Federation are fully immunised against the COVID-19. Following the recent spike in infections, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will increase the advisory from level 2 to level 3, effective immediately from Monday. Authorities advised the general public to continue wearing face masks in public, exercise extreme caution and maintain a six feet distance when in crowded places. Public is also asked to frequently wash their hands, keep door handles and other mostly touched places sanitized.
