The difficulty of monkeys and wild pigs wreaking plunder on farmers’ produce is being managed on with the implementation of various limitation measures by the Department of Agriculture. On this week’s version of the radio and television programme Working for You, Melvin James, Director of the Department of Agriculture, said that a $1.2 million scheme was adopted by the government that will serve to mark the wild monkey problem. Separate animals such as the feral pig will also be affected. James said that to day, around $750,000 has been made ready for plan implementation. “many of the problems that we have, we are presently in a situation to do something regarding it,” he stated. “There is the capital and so we can expedite proper trapping, particular firing, use fear gadgets and other deterrents, and electronic walls so that moving forth in 2020, we expect to be ready to report that we are doing something very concrete in terms of monkeys and pigs.” Director James urged growers to communicate their respective agricultural extension officers for more knowledge. While the plan was designed to assist farmers, the Director of Agriculture added that some thought will be given to assist homeowners who are negatively affected by the monkeys.
