On Wednesday the 28th of February, a team of police officers from various service units alongside several off-duty members conducted patrols inside the La Tourney Public Cemetery. Officers often conduct patrols at the funerals of homicide victims, in this case, it was the funeral of a deceased 36-year-old, Rick Kisna, a resident of Vieux Fort, he was murdered on the 6th.

During the processions, several officers focused their attention on a group of suspicious men and then expressed their intention to search these individuals. After the intention was clarified, one male attempted to flee which resulted in a short chase, he was ultimately detained by the police.

The weapons and accessories were brought into custody, one individual was arrested, and charges are yet to be made as the investigation unfolds. Eyewitness reports suggest that the officers were well within their bounds and proceeded rationally, no individual rights were broken throughout the exercise.

A video of the occurrence made its way to social media, namely a four-minute video without sound which depicts upheaval and disharmony at the funeral, the video ends with a suspect being taken away in handcuffs. After the video began to make rounds online, Saint Lucia Police issued a 2-minute public statement video wherein Sargent Ann Joseph stated

“We take this opportunity to also address persons who insist on attempting to obstruct, in any way, officers during the lawful conduct of their duties. In doing so, they may face prosecution. We wish to thank the public for their cooperation thus far, and continue to encourage persons to provide information vital to our crime reduction efforts."
