Trinidad and Tobago: Lights went off during Prime Minister Keith Rowley speech during the post cabinet meeting at Whitehall on Thursday, plunging the venue into darkness for several minutes.
The briefing began shortly after 2:30 pm, with the Prime Minister addressing remarks about Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar. However, the live broadcast on several local TV stations in the country went black.
As the live video of the blackout incident went viral on social media, netizens mocked the government for not being able to supply adequate power even during the nation’s leader’s address. Some people were even heard saying, “Well look like the prime minister didn’t pay his light bill.”
A user named Rennie Mungaroo noted, “That room was filled with darkness and incompetency literally” while another user called it a ‘failure’ and said, “A Total Failure even the lights failing in his presence.”
People even said that not even the lights wanted the Prime Minister to say nonsense and buff people disgrace, showing people’s distrust in the leader and his administration. “Nothing new Trinidad have been in darkness for quite some time now,” said another user named Nic Jules.
Even the leader was heard saying, “What is this, what’s going on here, power gone?” before leaving the podium. It is being said that he along with the Finance Minister Colm Imbert then exited the room.
The media persons present at the cabinet meeting were later told that it was a result of a breaker tip and that the power disruptions were limited to the room where it was being held.
Just after a few minutes of halt in the power supply, the authorities managed to bring it back following which Rowley completed his address. The large audience sat patiently to hear him even after the sudden disruption.
PM Rowley addressed several issues during the briefing which went on for more than an hour.
