PM Mitchell arrives in Belize to attend Meeting of CARICOM heads

Prime Minister of Grenada Dr Keith Mitchell has arrived in Belize to take part in the thirty-third Inter-Sessional Meeting of the Conference of Caribbean Community- CARICOM Heads of Government. While informing about his participation, PM Mitchell stated that the conference would feature the discussion on a number of issues, including the post-pandemic recovery.

The Meeting of the CARICOM heads of government is scheduled to be held from March 1 to 2, 2022, under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister of Belize, John Antonio Briceño.

While informing about his visit, PM Mitchell said, "I have arrived in Belize for the 33rd Inter-Sessional Meeting of the Conference of CARICOM the Heads of Government".

He further provides the list of topics to be discussed in the Meeting over the new and asserted that over the next two days, they would be consulting a number of issues, including the COVID-19 pandemic and the CARICOM Single Market and Economy.

"I will also update my colleague Heads on the impending reduction in roaming charges within CARICOM", outlined prime minister.

The Meeting is going to be held to discuss various major issues, such as the post-pandemic economic recovery of the Caribbean nations advancing the implementation of the CARICOM Single Market and economy (CSME).

Moreover, the discussion will also be based on the various aspects of building a more resilient Caribbean Community and the tough situation prevailing in Haiti, such as the political deadlock and security and social-economic challenges.

Reportedly, the Agri-Food systems agenda of the CARICOM will also face advancement by accepting the recommendations which would ensure the regional food and nutrition security. The topic of the Private, Labour and Civil Society is also going to be discussed in the Meeting.

The Secretary-General and now Deputy-Secretary General Dr Armstrong Alexis will attend the Meeting in -person for the first time after they took up their office last August and November, respectively.

Grenada will also present its current situation after the COVID-19 pandemic as last week, Health Minister Nicholas See said that the island's healthcare system was on the verge of collapse after Grenada experienced the first wave of the pandemic during the period of August to October last year.

Moreover, the vaccination rate of Grenada also stands at 33.2 percent, which is far much as per the PAHO.
