Norwegian Tall Ship reaches Jamaica for One Ocean Expedition
The Norwegian Tall Ship reached Jamaica as part of the One Ocean Expedition (2021-2023) and the UN-Decade of Ocean Science for the Sustainable Development.

Jamaica: The Norwegian Tall Ship reached Jamaica as part of the One Ocean Expedition (2021-2023) and the UN-Decade of Ocean Science for the Sustainable Development.
PM Andrew Holness stated, "I toured the Norwegian Tall Ship this morning, the “Statsraad Lehmkuhl.” The ship is visiting Jamaica as part of the One Ocean Expedition (2021-2023) and the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development."
"The Statsraad Lehmkuhl Tall Ship is 107 years old, and Jamaica is one of the 36 ports on which the vessel will call as it circumnavigates the globe over the next two years," he added.
Additionally, The Expedition seeks to collect and share real-time, high-quality ocean physics, chemistry, and biology data while serving as a floating university.
"Jamaica will continue to promote the preservation and sustainable use of ocean resources and welcome the results of the research being undertaken by the vessel to improve collective knowledge about the ocean," he added.
"We look forward to deepening the existing partnership between Jamaica and Norway," PM stated.

Officials stated that the One Ocean Expedition is is a circumnavigation by the Norwegian tall ship Statsraad Lehmkuhl. Their objective is to share information about the important role of the ocean for sustainable expansion from a global viewpoint. The One Ocean expedition initiated their sail from Arendal, Norway, on Friday, August 20, 2021, and continued their sail for the period of 19 months before returning to its homeport, on Saturday, April 15, in 2023. The Norwegian sailing ship Statsraad Lehmkuhl will visit worldwide, attending more than 36 ports, including Ushuaia, at the terminal of March 2022. Research and education of future leaders in sustainability are part of this unique journey. The Statsraad Lehmkuhl expedition produces the opportunity to traverse the sea and accumulate large amounts of data and research to improve awareness about the state of the world’s oceans concerning the distribution of various organisms, fish populations, coral information, environmental status, sea-level and other climate and influencing factors.Latest
