Literacy is remarkable in means of boosting the economy of any country. Whether small or large, every economy needs to have a good education system as a priority for citizens.

The Commonwealth of Dominica is a small country in the Caribbean with less than 70,000 population, yet the government of the country is successfully providing free education to uplift the literacy rate of the country.

Despite not being a wealthy country, the reforms by the current Dominica Labour Party government on the island have helped a number of students in fulfilling the dream of going to colleges and universities with revolutionary free education policies.

Prime Minister of Dominica, Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit when he took over the office in 2004, back then he was the youngest person to serve the position.

His age and qualification made it possible for people to get success through the clear road of education under government policies.

During an event, Dr. Skerrit had said that during his times' education was a privilege and he had to wash dishes, clean the floor just to make money to pay off schools expenses and he never wanted anybody else in his country to face the same challenges that all had to face during the period of the '90s. He said he always intended to make education free to all.

Dominica is one of the few countries that is not only providing free education but is also helping students in reaching institutions through the no-cost bus services.

The Dominica State College, a freely supported foundation, offers programs prompting GCE Advanced Levels and partner degrees; it additionally works four resources and has a proceeding with thinks about division.

PM Roosevelt Skerrit recently said that “We not only created the State College, but we also built the new State College and we are funding it to the extent that today every child in Dominica who graduates from high school has a space at the Dominica State College”.

“We are the only Caribbean island where you can find students have free access to community college and I keep saying to people that there is no better way of empowering poor people than by giving them education and that’s what Dominica Labour Party has been doing for Dominicans” added Skerrit.

Dominica is the same country that was devastated by Hurricane Maria in the year of 2017. The devastation was so critical that the Prime Minister was called the PM of a nation without land. The development that the country has managed to achieve in a small period is revolutionary. Come back by a small nation after facing a catastrophe of category 5 Hurricane is truly appreciatable.
