No Miss Dominica for Carnival 2018
Festival committee to announce details next week
Saturday, 2nd December 2017
The annual Miss Dominica pageant will not take place during next year’s carnival celebrations.
Challenging logistics have been blamed for the change to the tradition during the first post-Hurricane Maria event.
Carnival celebrations were only confirmed last month by Colin Piper, CEO of Discover Dominica Authority.
“The national Miss Dominica pageant will not be happening during Carnival 2018 because the logistics are not in place in terms of preparation for the young ladies,” said Val Cuffy, festival and events manager of the Dominica Festival Committee, reports Dominica News Online.
The website reports that despite it being put on the “back burner” it could still take place in April 2018.
More information about Dominica Carnival is expected to announced this week, with the festival organisers planning a media launch on 5 December.
New actives that have been discussed for next year’s celebrations include two J’ouvert mornings and a ‘movie night’ showing footage of previous carnivals.
