Barbados: African country Nigeria and Caribbean country Barbados are confident of improved relations by leveraging the partnership within TelNet Nigeria Limited and Barbados companies, Global Integrated Fintech Solutions (GIFTS) and IPayAnywhere (iPAY).
The move by the parties was to transform seamless electronic payment in Africa through anti-money laundering payment processing services, fraud reduction, also iPayAnywhere solution, an end-to-end mobile-based payment solution that services the government, private sector also consumers.
The partnership was sealed at a signing ceremony among the companies, hosted by Barbados High Commission, Ghana & Caribbean Export, in collaboration with Export Barbados/BIDC and CBC TV Channel 8.
Foreign Affairs Minister and Foreign Trade, Barbados, Dr. Jerome Walcott, who stressed his government’s dedication to building and deepening commercial diplomacy with nations in Africa, stated that he looks towards enhanced bilateral trade relations among Barbados and Nigeria.
While supporting the partnership with TelNet, the Nigerian-based tech company, he said that the government’s exploration of a new & dynamic ethos of national development through the stimulation and backing of private sector ties was evidenced through the signing ceremony.
As per him, “It allows GIFTS to have access to an introductory market of over 200 million people by employing TelNet’s large database of customers, and allows TelNet to stretch its operation’s competencies into the Nigerian fintech space.
This drive also presents GIFTS with an opportunity to increase the operation of Barbadian homegrown technologies in the coming future, as part of the government’s plan of economic diversification.”
Group Managing Director GMD, TelNet Nigeria Limited, Folorunsho Aliu, stated with the partnership, it was sure of expanding anti-money laundering & card services portfolio of products in the financial services.
He noted as the fintech space is growing in Nigeria, there was the requirement to guarantee that transactions, consumers, also financial systems are protected for sustainability and integrity.
He noticed that Telnet and its subsidiary companies had been at the forefront of technology-enabled business innovation in Nigeria with essential projects that had transformed the Nigerian economy.
Founder & Executive Chairman of GIFTS and iPay, Dave Sahadath, who expressed confidence in the decision to go into business & form a partnership with TelNet, noted that the firm has the knowledge of the local market with the reputation of producing great products and services to the marketplace.
