News Swiss ambassador to Dominica welcomed by president
Over a decade of diplomatic relations between the countries
The President of Dominica welcomed the new ambassador-designate of Switzerland to the island last week.
On Wednesday, Charles Savarin referenced the recent moves to deepen relations between CARICOM and Switzerland in “areas of mutual interest” as he met Urs Schinder.
Environmental protection, renewable energy, financial services, tourism and agribusiness were identified as areas for establishing cooperation.
According to a press release, “Savarin says as a member of the OECS and CARICOM, Dominica looks forward to strengthening these areas at a bilateral and regional level.”
The president also noted the offer of support by the Swiss government of establishing a permanent mission from Dominica to the United Nations in Geneva.
Dominica and Switzerland established diplomatic relations in 2005 with a strong focus on sports and physical education
