New curfew hours announced, including Labour Day restriction

Tuesday, 12th May 2020

The 12-hour curfew which currently runs from 6 pm to 6 am each day will be adjusted as of Wednesday, May 13 to reflect the new times of 8 pm to 5 am each day until Sunday, May 24, the day before the Labour Day holiday which will be observed on Monday, May 25.

For the Labour Day holiday period which begins on Sunday, the curfew will be tightened and will run from 3 pm Sunday, May 24 until 8 am on Labour Day.

On Labour Day, the curfew will commence at 3 pm and will run until 5 am on Tuesday, May 26.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness made the announcement Monday evening as he addressed a virtual COVID-19 press conference from Jamaica House. He noted that the tightening of the curfew over the Labour Day period would be similar to what obtained over the Easter holiday period to limit the spread of the novel coronavirus.

Following the holiday period, the curfew will again be adjusted and will run daily from 9m on Tuesday, May 26 until 5 am on May 31.

Holness said the relaxing of the curfew hours are aimed at ensuring economic activity as the Government continues to ensure that public health is maintained during the COVID-19 crisis.
