Nevis 2017: Voters head to the polls
Five districts up for grabs

Polls have opened on Nevis as decide on the composition of the Nevis Island Assembly elections.
Polling stations – 34 in total – let in the first voters at 7am and will stay open until 6pm.
Leader of the Concerned Citizens Movement Mark Brantley, who took over from outgoing Premier Vance Amory, is hoping to keep his seat in St John / District Two as he goes up against Hensley Daniel of the Nevis Reformation Party.

This represents a 12% increase from number in 2013, he added.
Ian M Queeley, commissioner of police in St Kitts and Nevis, said that officers would be on patrol to “ensure your safety”.
“I trust that the people of Nevis will continue to uphold the law and abide by the electoral regulations, and I would like to use this opportunity to remind you that the Royal St Christopher and Nevis Police Force is here to serve without fear or favour regardless the administration,” he said.
A number of election offences and regulations were mentioned by Queeley, including bribery, drinking alcohol loitering around the polling stations.
