Trinidad and Tobago: A man was shot and killed outside his residence in South Oropouche in Trinidad on Saturday, June 1, 2024. The deceased has been identified as 21-year-old Dennis Jugoon, aka Fats of Lezama Trace, St John’s.
According to the information, around 12 am, Jugoon was standing outside his residence when he was ambushed and chased by a man who was armed, who ended up shooting him in the head and killing him on the spot.
The relatives and neighbors heard the sound of gunshots, and upon checking, they found the victim in the bushes at the back of his residence bleeding from gunshot injuries.
They immediately notified the police officers, the responding officers, and a district medical officer. Upon reaching, the DMO viewed the body and pronounced him dead, following which the body was taken to the Forensic Science Centre.
The crime scene investigators also responded and found one spent 9 mm shell casing as well as a cell phone.
It is to be noted that the police officials believe that Jugoon’s murder is a continuation of a spate of drug-related shootings that started last year.
Just over one year earlier, on May 24, 2023, gunmen killed the victim’s 41-year-old cousin, Adesh Ramrattan, while he was sitting in his car along Belle Vue Road, South Oropouche.
After that, on June 1, 2023, Jugoon’s brother, Gary, 39, and his nephew, 19-year-old Romel Jugoon, were shot by the gunmen. Both of them were wounded and treated for their injuries.
This incident forced Jugoon to go to Tobago, where he lived for a few months with his girlfriend, but he became homesick and came back.
While police are still searching for more evidence to ascertain a motive, they discovered that Jugoon was among four fishermen who were kidnapped by Venezuelan criminals while fishing in the Gulf of Paria off Mosquito Creek last year. The kidnappers took them to Venezuela but released them after a month.
