List of 15 finalists for National Junior Calypso Monarch 2024 released

The Trinbago Unified Calypsonians Organisation officially unveiled the list of fifteen finalists for National Junior Calypso Monarch 2024.

Trinidad and Tobago: The Trinbago Unified Calypsonians Organisation officially unveiled the list of 15 finalists for the National Junior Calypso Monarch 2024. The Finale will be held under Trinidad's National, TUCO Carnival, scheduled from January 13 to February 11, 2024. The National Junior Calypso Monarch 2024 will take place on February 5 at the Grand Stand Queen’s Park Savannah, Port of Spain, from 10 AM onwards.  The 15 junior Calypso finalists will represent themselves and their schools and vie for the prestigious crown title of National Junior Calypso Monarch 2024.  The Semi-Finals for the grand competition were held on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at Modern Savannah Grass, Kaiso House Calypso Tent. It featured over 50 students who competed in the preliminary round of the Junior National Calypso Monarch competition. Out of these, 30 semi-finalists were shortlisted to represent themselves and vie for the finale in 2024. Notably, the National Junior Calypso Monarch is the most prestigious Calypso event, which features various performances by the most talented teens across the island, representing their communities and backgrounds.  Each year, the event showcases various thrilling Calypso performances and provides a platform to present and express themselves using the rhythms of Calypso. The Preliminary round of the event was held on January 20, 2024.

  • Jariah Nelson: St James Primary School, Port of Spain
  • Caleb Hinds: The University of the West Indies
  • Nataki Thompson: Scarborough Primary School
  • Tsiann Burke: Holy Faith Convent
  • Koquice Davidson: Bishop's High School
  • Kai Anthony Salazar: St Benedict College La Romanie
  • Janaya Clarke: San Fernando Girls Anglican Primary School
  • Kurlise Bentham: The University of Trinidad and Tobago
  • Zachary Ransom: Montrose Government Primary School
  • Cayla Allen: Holy Name Convent, Port of Spain
  • Kyah Arnold: Scarborough Primary School

Calypso Music

Calypso is a unique style of music that originated in the West Indies, Trinidad and Tobago, in the 19th Century and was spread to the rest of the Caribbean by the mid-20th Century. This form of Music carries heavy lyrics and vocals and has now spanned creating various types, such as Soca Music, Chutney, Benna, Ska, Extempo, etc.
