Antigua and Barbuda: As the announcement for the start of commercial flights for LIAT (Leeward Islands Air Transport Services) 2020 is made for June by the Prime Minister Gaston Browne, the operations for its successful commencement are going in the country. The test flights for the same have successfully been completed.
Recently, the interview was conducted with the PM Browne where he highlighted that the LIAT will soon come into operation. And, it is expected that the country will receive the approval by next week by achieving the Air operator Certificate.
Considerably, the Air Operator Certificate in the case of LIAT 2020 was delayed earlier as certain faults were discovered in the landing gears during the testing of aircrafts. Now, it has been sent again for approval so it could achieve the certificate by next week.
At the time, LIAT 1974 ceased operations in January 2024, the announcement of LIAT 2020 was made as its replacement. The operational cease was due to its low demand and increased debt. Such conditions took birth when COVID 19 worsened the situation.
Significantly, the announcement for LIAT 2020 was made with an objective of sustaining LIAT with potential tourist arrivals that could benefit the economy of not only Antigua and Barbuda but also the entire Caribbean region.
Aligning to it, the company recently accepted two jet aircrafts which were greeted with a water cannon salute at the VC Bird International Airport. The two E-145 jet aircrafts are also expected to enhance the connectivity and accessibility to the region.
With the start of the LIAT 2020, the mobility expansion would project the developmental state of the country that would make the country stand out of the queue. Such a connectivity would foster the overall state of country.
The LIAT 2020 airline was established in partnership with Air Peace which is the private Nigerian airline founded in 2013.
