Kamina Johnson Smith extends wishes on World Environment Day

Jamaica: On the auspicious occasion of World Environment Day, Kamina Johnson Smith- Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Jamaica, expressed pleasure and greeted people across the globe.

Kamina Smith outlined the significance of the environment and encouraged people to come forward in the steps to protect the natural reserves on the earth.

She emphasized that everyone has to be cautious about the environment and adopt measures of sustainable living that could be helpful in the reduction of carbon footprints.

Through her social media post, Kamina Smith noted, "Today we celebrate World Environment Day 2022 under the theme 'Only One Home'. More than ever, we must continue to adopt best practices for sustainable living and encourage habits that reduce our carbon footprint. This is our home; let's all do our best to protect it."

Kamina Johnson Smith is Jamaica's candidate for the Secretary-General of Commonwealth, and the elections to fill the post will be held during the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting in Kigali, Rwanda, in June.

She visited various regions, such as Africa and the Caribbean, to promote herself for the top position. During her visit, she interacted with political leaders of the countries and shared her re-energizing vision for the Commonwealth.

Various countries, including Belize, Trinidad and Tobago, India and the United Kingdom, back Johnson Smith's candidature for the top position.

World Environment Day is celebrated on June 5 across the globe and the main objective behind the day is to create awareness about the conservation of the environment and the natural reserves among the people.

World Environment Day is the biggest international day for the environment, and it has been led by UNEP and held annually since 1973. The event has created the largest platform for people from across the World engaging to protect the planet.

The day is emerging as a reminder that Earth is the only liveable planet, and people have to take action to reset the balance between people and the natural World to create a better future for all.

Sweden was the host country for the celebration of World Environment Day 2022 and also hosted Stockholm+50 from 2 to June 3.

The theme for this year is "Only One Earth which focuses on creating an atmosphere filled with peace, harmony, prosperity and health by saving nature and life".
