Edmund Bartlett, the tourism minister of Jamaica, proclaimed that provisional figures from the Jamaica Tourist Board show that the island has earned the US $ 3.1 Billion till date.

Jamaica from January to October 2019 greeted 3.4 million visitors to the island.

“We have knocked the US $3.1 billion marks for incomes. We had previously broken the 3 million mark for travellers, so we are on a path to excel our target,” said the Minister.

The Minister perceives that this sets the island on track to surpass the Tourism Ministry’s five-pillar growth policy, which when introduced in 2016 was projected to result in guest arrivals rising to 5 million in 5 years and earning the US $5 billion.

The plan, which targets acquiring five million visitors by 2021, is using the five tourism pillars, which comprises tapping into new markets; developing new products; promoting investments and building new partnerships.

Edmund Bartlett said that the region is already getting return up to 23 per cent in South America which is influential. We have also been equipped to receive 11 flights a week from COPA coming out of Panama for Kingston and Montego Bay.

Minister adding further said that he would be directing a small team over the weekend in Lima, to initiate the first nonstop flight from the destination to Montego Bay, Jamaica by LATAM Airlines. The trip, which arrives on Monday, will begin a three-rotation programme by LATAM into Montego Bay.

The Minister made these disclosures earlier today while a Tourism Working Group (TWG) Meeting hosted at his New Kingston office.
