Historic Win: West Indies beats Australia after 27 year
Guyanese Shamar Joseph defied injury and produced a heroic bowling performance that saw West Indies securing a series-levelling victory against the mighty Australians at the Brisbane Cricket Ground in Gabba.

The West Indies won their first Test match in Australia after 27 years, winning by eight runs, thanks to an inspiring bowling performance from a wounded Shamar Joseph. The region is overjoyed with the massive victory the team managed to secure after years and years of waiting.
Guyanese Shamar Joseph defied injury and produced a heroic bowling performance, which saw the West Indies secure a series-levelling victory against the mighty Australians at the Brisbane Cricket Ground in Gabba.
Political Leaders Overjoyed Following this huge win, the Caribbean leaders all took to their social media accounts to extend their congratulations and express their pride over the excellent team. Prime Minister of Dominica, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, said, "An incredible win for our Men in Maroon. And what a special talent is Shamar Joseph. Congratulations to the West Indies team, and thank you for the joy inspired by your stunning victory." PM Skerrit also extended special congratulations to Alick Athanaze and Kavem Hodge, the young Dominican players who gave their best in these test matches.[embed]https://twitter.com/SkerritR/status/1751918057306644935[/embed]
Also, the President of Guyana, Dr Irfaan Ali, took to Facebook to express his huge congratulations to Shamar Joseph. He said, "What a stunning performance from Shamar Joseph with the ball! Despite his injury, he picked up 7 for 68 to lead the West Indies to victory against the world's number-one test team. Congratulations Windies." The Prime Minister of Saint Lucia Philip J Pierre in his congratulatory message wrote, "Today, West Indians around the world are celebrating the Men in Maroon after their remarkable Test Victory in Australia after 27 years."[embed width="1400" height="1000"]https://twitter.com/CricCrazyJohns/status/1751795886362173935[/embed]
He specifically mentioned Shamar Joseph, who made the whole region proud. PM Pierre said, "Shamar Joseph, what an amazing display of sportsmanship, topped off with the well-deserved Man of the Match and Man of the Series titles."
The Prime Minister added that it was truly inspiring to witness history being made.Additionally, the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Dr Keith Rowley, sent the following message to the West Indies Captain Kraigg Brathwaite following their victory.He said, "CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU AND ALL COMPONENTS OF THE TEAM. You have delivered what we hankered after for so long. You have rekindled possibilities and have lifted West Indian spirits and hopes. You have created belief where hope was lost and where none existed.""However, having shown the route to be travelled, our people will expect you and your colleagues to stay the course for the long journey as you wave the flag to the sound of supporters singing RALLY ROUND THE WEST INDIES," added Rowley.
Several other Caribbean leaders wished the team good luck and said that they had created history by defeating Australia on their home ground. Also, during the match the former captain of West Indies, Brian Lara was part of the commentary panel when Guyanese Shamar Joseph took the last Australian wicket. Lara was seen in tears as the West Indies celebrated.
He said that it was unbelievable and said, "27 years to beat Australia in Australia." The former captain added that the young and inexperienced West Indies team and West Indies cricket can stand tall today.
