Haiti: Martine Moise, wife of the late President Jovenel Moise of Haiti, has hinted towards her candidacy for the elections of President, which comes less than a month after President Jovenel Moise was assassinated at his own residence on 7 July 2021.

President Moise's wife, while conversing with a local media house, cited, "President Jovenel Moise had a vision & now we Haitians are not going to let that die easily." With this, she has also informed the sources that those who came to kill President Moise were looking for some certain document.

"They were seeking for something in the room, and they found it, and I did not know what it was," Martine Moise further asserted.

Following the statement, Martine Moise noted that she is seriously acknowledging to stand as a candidate for the presidency of Haiti once she undergoes more surgeries on her wounded arm.

The wife of Haiti's President was also shot in the attack and was later taken to Florida for her treatment but returned a week before his official funeral.

She added that "I want people who did this to be caught; otherwise, they would kill every single President who comes in power. They did it once. They can do it again."

While talking to the local media house, Martine Moise questioned the absence of the 30 to 50 security guards who were usually posted at their house whenever President Moise was at home and added that none of the guards was injured or killed.

She stated, "I do not understand how nobody was shot."

So far, in the assassination case of Haiti's President, Haitian Police have arrested nearly 30 people, which also includes three Haitian Americans living in Miami.

The legislative elections in the Caribbean island country are scheduled for 26 September 2021 after being postponed for two times. Earlier this month, 71 years old Dr Ariel Henry became the seventh prime minister since 2017 of the island country.
