Guyana: A former constable of the Guyana Police Force brutally beat her girlfriend before throwing kerosene on her and attempting to set her on fire after she found that he was cheating on her. The incident took place on Sunday around 7 pm at the residence of the suspect.
According to the police officials, 34-year-old Nekisha Bennett of Grove, East Bank Demerara, was dating Rafiq Bobby Chichester, a former constable of the Guyana Police Force (GPF).
While reporting the incident with police officials, Bennett said that she left her home in Grove, EBD around 12 pm and went to her boyfriend’s home to help him with some household work.
The woman reported that upon arrival the man was cleaning his home and she started to help him and after cleaning the man told her that he wants to sleep with her before she go home but the female denied.
Following this, the suspect went out with his cousin while the victim was still at his place. The reports added that after some time, another woman came to the house and asked for Rafiq, but the victim said he wasn’t there and asked her who she was, to which she said that she was his girlfriend.
Bennett didn’t say anything and called her boyfriend’s cousin to drop her off at home. As the suspect came back, he had a chat with the other woman and became angry, following which he began to beat the victim.
The woman reported that she called her sister, who asked her to leave immediately, but the former constable didn’t let her leave and continued to beat her aggressively before putting kerosene on her and trying to put her on fire.
As the woman was able to escape the place with the help of neighbours, she was rushed to the hospital for treatment while the suspect was arrested by police officials, but he was granted station bail for $20,000 after sometime.
