Government of Dominica is implementing measures to raise quality of life: PM Roosevelt Skerrit

Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit emphasized that the government continues to develop policies and implement measures in place to improve the quality of life of every single Dominican.

Prime Minister of Dominica, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit stated that he is particularly concerned about a large number of incidents of non-communicable diseases in the country.

Prime Minister stated during Anou Palay episode on Sunday that non-communicable diseases constitute Dominica's dominant health problems. He noted that conditions like diabetes, hypertension, heart diseases, stroke and cancer are some of the leading causes of death and disability in the country.

He added that he is extremely concerned about the health and well being of his citizens and people suffering from these conditions must always follow what their health practitioners suggest.

While referring to the health statistics from 2013-2017, he stated that more females were diagnosed with diabetes while more males had amputation in the age group of 55-59 years.

"This prevalence of NCDs, I believe, is in the area of real concern, that has implications for the health of our people and health services. It holds implications for the economy as more and more productive members of our society are affected by this," added Dr Skerrit.

Furthermore, the Prime Minister stated that the government continues to develop policies and put measures in place to improve the quality of life of every citizen of the country.

"We continue to invest in the physical infrastructure of the country. We are building roads, bridges, resilient homes, new health centres and hospitals. We are also about to embark on the construction of an international airport." added the Dominican Prime Minister.

He emphasized that the government continues to develop policies and implement measures in place to improve the quality of life of every single Dominican.

Prime Minister stated that all these new developments could only be enjoyed if Dominican people are healthy.

Prime Minister invited Dr Lisa Jolly- Diabties expert, Mignon Rolle Shilling Ford- Head of Health promotion Unity and Dr Any St Hilaire-Medical Officer.

During this episode of Anou Palay, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit stated that the Vieille Case health centre would be named "Wellness Centre" as suggested by the health experts on the programme.
