The Parliamentary Representative of Grand Bay constituency, Dr Vince Henderson, mentioned that it is pleasing that the rehabilitation of the Edward Registe Primary School is about to be completed. He further extended thanks to the Government of Canada for financially supporting the entire Constituency and its development projects.

“It is very pleasing to know that work on the rehabilitation of what will soon be known as the Edward Registe Primary School will soon be completed. I want on behalf of the entire Constituency to thank the Government of Canada for making available through the Caribbean Development Bank some 3.5 million dollars for this very important project,” the Parliamentary Representative stated.

He further said that he is glad that as the world is moving towards face-to-face learning, the Constituency has been providing a better environment to the students of the region. He added that this type of environment is important for conducive to learning.

Henderson further outlined, “As we move towards the return of face-to-face learning next week, I am happy to know that our teachers and students in Grand Bay will soon be able to do so in an environment that is very conducive to learning.”

The Grand Bay Primary School was constructed in the year 1971, and to date, more than two hundred students have attended the school.

Recently, the school was renamed the Edward Registe Primary School in memory of former Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Business and Diaspora Relations and Parliamentary Representative – Edward Registe.

The former Parliamentary Representative took his last breath in the early hours of September 1, 2021, at the Dominica China Friendship Hospital.

Late Registe was honoured for his contribution to the Constituency's development in a tribute ceremony held on September 11, 2021.

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, while paying tribute, recalled all the hard work done by Edward since being elected as the MP for Grand Bay Parliament.

PM Skerrit was quoted saying, “He (Edward) always focused on his mission to empower every constituent with improved housing, access to education, and a better standard of living, since he became the representative for the Grand Bay Constituency in December 2019. He helped around 35 families in moving to the new homes, such a short time span.”

“As rehabilitation of the Grand Bay Primary School was one of the focuses of the MP. In this regard, when Grand Bay Primary School is completed, it shall be renamed the Edward Registe Primary School,” PM Skerrit announced.

PM Skerrit further added that the deserving students of the Grand Bay Constituency would be awarded five scholarships in honour of the late Ed Registe. These scholarships have been awarded annually.

The 2.5 million dollar project included the installation of new roofs and ceilings; reconstruction of the main classroom block, library/computer lab, auditorium, guidance counselling room, kitchen, cafeteria and washrooms; construction of a new Early Childhood Facility and administrative block.
