Flight from Ghana to US diverted to Bermuda after famous singer died on board
An aircraft from Ghana to the United States was forced to detour to Bermuda when a person died on board. Daniel Toffey, a well-known gospel singer from Columbus, Ohio, who was set to release an album next month, has been identified as the deceased.

He was visiting relatives in Ghana, died of a pulmonary embolism, according to reports.

Daniel Toffey Jr, a gospel singer from the Jomoro district of Ghana's Western Region who now lives in the United States, had travelled to Ghana with his father and mother to attend the burial of an in-law.

The United Airlines 997 flight from Accra to Washington's Dulles Airport took off late Sunday night.

The Toffey began struggling to breathe midway through the journey, according to news sources. He died while the plane was still in the air, despite the efforts of multiple medics on board. As per reports, there were seven doctors on board of the flight.

The jet was redirected to L.F. Wade International Airport in Bermuda, where it landed at 6 a.m. Around 180 passengers and crew members were transported to the Grotto Bay Beach Resort for the day.

After United Airlines sent a rescue flight to the island, passengers were able to resume their journey to the US shortly before midnight on Monday, according to a representative for Skyport, the airport's management business. Last night, the diverted plane and its crew were finally able to leave Bermuda.
