Eight people from three different health districts test positive in St Lucia

Coronavirus cases in St Lucia continue to rise, and the health ministry confirmed eight more positive patients in the country, which makes the total number of cases to 156.

Coronavirus cases in St Lucia continue to rise, and the health ministry confirmed eight more positive patients in the country, which makes the total number of cases to 156.

Chief Medical Officer, Dr Sharon Belmar-George stated that all the eight confirmed patients are aged between 15 to 59, and it includes four male and females three different areas.

The newly confirmed coronavirus patients belong to Vieux-Fort, Gros-Islet and Castries. All eight of these people were tested at a community health facility.

All these people are contacts of previously identified patients who got themselves tested after contact tracing.

Dr Sharon stated that if any individual in St Lucia is currently experiencing any flu-like symptoms, then they must avoid public gatherings, work and other activities.

The Chief Medical Officer of St Lucia advised people not to visit bars, restaurants or church if facing any respiratory problems.

Besides this, she stated that as the coronavirus cases continue to increase it is our responsibility to follow all the health protocols in order to keep ourselves and others safe.

She stated that one must always keep the frequently touched surfaces clean, wash hands, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer and practice social distancing.

Dr Sharon stated that it had been proven that we can avoid catching the coronavirus just by merely following these health protocols that also suggest wearing a face mask in public places.
