Denzil Douglas.

Leader of the Opposition, the Rt Hon Dr Denzil L. Douglas has asked Minister of Tourism, Hon Lindsay Grant to tell the nation where is the US$3 billion underwater hotel he promised over one year ago.

Mr. Grant in announcing the US$3 billion sea city ultra-luxury sea-borne, semi-submerged, floating hotel resort development in February 2018 said the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis "has been chosen as the host-nation for the unique, futuristic, cutting edge, SEA City Development project, coded-named SEA City, by MOI Imagineering International Limited.

"The amazing US$3 billion mega project, which will be built by a consortium of international acclaimed organizations, is to be in 10 square kilometers of blue waters in our beloved country. This is an innovative masterpiece," said Grant, who added that it will be a sea-borne, floating, semi-submerged, ultra-luxury residence and resort, which promises to add to the appeal of St. Kitts and Nevis as an Iconic Global Destination."

"Mr Grant, where is this underwater hotel?" asked Dr Douglas, who added that Mr Grant cannot deliver on land-based hotels that he said will be built, "yet he has promised over a year ago to build an underwater resort."

Dr said the Timothy Harris-led Team Unity Government has spent the last four years frustrating investors and developers interested in developing St Kitts and Nevis.

"Look at what Dr Harris has done with the Citizenship by Investment Programme? They have destroyed the programme. As a result of destroying the programme, the Timothy Harris government cannot attract any serious investor or developer to St Kitts and Nevis," said the former prime minister.

Mr Grant said at the time, that the underwater hotel project will occupy a 10 Square Kilometer space that will develop as a floating city comprising 1,000+ signature [floating] semi-submerged residential units; 500+ Signature floating semi-submerged resort accommodation units; underwater leisure pool and spa complex; underwater garden; floating banqueting restaurant and bar; semi-submerged resort reception building with feature restaurant and conferencing facilities; a 1,300+ berth marina; marina clubhouse restaurant and bar; 20,000 + square meters of floating leisure attractions, for use by the residents and tourists of the Host Location alike (external to the Sea Wall); a network of floating roads; a protective floating sea wall, with built-in running and cycling tracks; a 50+ MW solar power plant and fresh water generator; and a retail and reception spine adjacent to the marina complex.

Since taking office in 2015, Prime Minister Dr Harris has failed to deliver on several hotel projects including the Ritz-Carlton and the Six Senses Resort.
