Dominica: The Minister of State with responsibility for Public Utilities, Telecoms and Broadcasting, Chekira Lockhart-Hypolite assumed the Chairmanship of the Eastern Caribbean Telecommunications Authority (ECTEL).

The announcement was made on Thursday as Dominica hosted the 45th Meeting of the ECTEL Council of Ministers at the Fort Young Hotel.

Prime Minister of Dominica, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, congratulated the young woman for assuming this prestigious role. He shared the development through a Facebook post and posted several glimpses of the ECTEL meeting. Notably, the ECTEL promotes a harmonized regulatory approach to fair competition, consumer protection and economic development within the telecommunications sector. ECTEL is the regulatory body for telecommunications in Dominica, Grenada, St Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Minister Chekira Lockhart-Hypolite, who also serves as the Parliamentary Representative for the Roseau South Constituency, is known for her active participation in her constituency. The Minister is always working for the betterment of her people and the country as a whole.

She is always seen spending time with her constituents, especially the elderly citizens. According to the Minister, "Spending time with our elderly citizens is one of my greatest joys as the Parliamentary Representative. I always cherish their words of advice, encouragement and, importantly, their prayers."

This shows Chekira Lockhart-Hypolite's commitment towards the work she decides to do and takes an active part in it.

Even when she was re-elected as the Parliamentary Representative, she vowed to remain close to the people who have entrusted her to look after their welfare and well-being and the advancement of the constituency. "I will continue to engage, discuss and consult all of you on issues that are confronting us," added the Minister.

This time also, being elected as the Chairman of the ECTEL, Lockhart-Hypolite expresses her firm belief to work hard in every part she is required.

Several citizens of Dominica also congratulated their Parliamentary Representative for the good work. They motivated her and also wished her luck for future endeavours.

As she was already responsible with Public Utilities, Telecoms and Broadcasting in Dominica, it is everyone's confidence that she will work wonderfully at the Eastern Caribbean Telecommunications Authority.
