Roseau, Dominica: Ras Mo, a cultural figure of Dominica passed Thursday in the US, is a huge loss to the country. Roosevelt Skerrit, the Prime Minister of Dominica, extended deepest condolences to the people connected to him. Desmond Delmoce aka Ras Mo was a cultural activist who has laid a strong impression on the people of the Dominica and around with his contributions. He started hand drumming from the age of five and continuously worked with performing arts. He was a poet, composer, singer, storyteller, teacher, and facilitator who through his art has contributed a lot in violence prevention, and has fostered gender and race equality, community-building and social justice. One of his interactive curriculum projects, Pink and Blue, explores gender socialization, class, and masculinity through original songs, poems, and lively group activities. The role which he has played in shaping the community is of great importance as he has designed and led community and school programs in the United States, Canada, England, and the Caribbean Not only this, he as well was a certified Remo HealthRhythms facilitator. “HealthRhythms is a creative music-expression protocol which is supported by peer-reviewed scientific studies. This has an extreme focus on both biological and psychological outcomes and is an effective stress-reduction strategy. The contributions he has given to the country are of great importance which has made the country and its people to mourn. One of the citizens also mentioned, “My deepest and sincere condolences to family and friends for their loss. Ros Mo, left us a legacy of hope to educate and raise awareness about our history. His actions and creativity will love on for generations to come. I am at a loss for words. DD will be remembered. Rest in eternal peace dear friend.” Such a statement by the citizen speaks to all of what the personality has given to the country and can not be forgotten.
