Dominica to receive another 28,800 doses of Covishield vaccine from PAHO

Through the COVAX facility of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), the Commonwealth of Dominica is all set to receive 28,800 doses of the Covishield vaccine on Tuesday, April 6, 2021.

Dominica: Through the COVAX facility of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), the Commonwealth of Dominica is all set to receive 28,800 doses of the Covishield vaccine on Tuesday, April 6, 2021.

According to PAHO, it will deliver another 208,800 Astra-Zeneca Covishield vaccine jabs to the Caribbean region to inoculate the population against the COVID-19 pandemic, which would include delivery of doses to Bermuda 9,600 - Barbados 33,600 - St Kitts and Nevis 21,600 - Dominican Republic 91,200 and St Vincent and the Grenadines 24,000.

Dominica, which so far has successfully managed to curb the COVID-19 crises, is actively inoculating the population against the deadly virus as it had already received two consignments of vaccines from India and China, 70,000 and 20,000, respectively.
Having a population of about 70,000, Dominica is on the path to becoming the first country in the world to immunize 100% of its population against the global pandemic. The historical feat is credited to Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit for his distinct diplomacy and efficient administration. According to PAHO, the organization has already provided the COVID-19 vaccine to 28 countries with 2,952,080 doses of the Oxford Astra-Zeneca vaccine. Out of which, 2,628,080 have already been delivered, and 324,000 are in transit which would reach the specific destinations by April 8, 2021.

The government of Dominica is encouraging people to take the vaccine not for themselves but for the people who are around them. The government also introduced a perceptible initiative of the “Work in Nature” programme to boost the tourism industry by providing a safe and secure place to work from home.

PM Skerrit had also announced in his weekly show Annou Pale that the government had introduced particular guidelines for properties offering a safe stay for the tourists, which includes complete sanitization and monitoring of the guests during their stay in the country.
