Dominica allows tourists to quarantine in "nature"
Prime Minister of Commonwealth of Dominica Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit discussed the "safe in nature programme" in his weekly Anou Pale broadcast.

He stated that the programme was developed to provide tourists with an option to escape to the nature isle while they complete their quarantine. He added that Dominica is unique and has so much to offer, including under-water delights, water sports activities like whale watching.

Prime Minister stated that the safe in nature programme has gone well, but recently the government had to review some practices.

The permanent secretary of tourism, Lisa Valmond, also joined PM Skerrit for a more comprehensive discussion on the "safe in nature programme". She stated that the programme allows tourists to serve their quarantine period at a private certified facility surrounded by nature.

"It is a managed tourism experience because the property manages all the items on the itinerary," stated Lisa Vermond.

She added that the programme was developed as an initiative to increase the island's tourism activities as the sector is currently undergoing a severe crisis due to the pandemic.

The permanent tourism secretary also stated that all service providers under the initiative are asked to follow several limitations and safety concerns.

"Safe in nature experience begins at the airport when the visitor has cleared through the screening, customs, and immigration, then they will take a safe in nature taxi." added Vermond.

Further explaining the programme, she stated that after reaching the private accommodation tourists can enjoy certain types of activities on the property and some off-property activities can also be enjoyed.

Vermond stated that these private properties can be guest houses or hotels that are government certified.

"Overall objective is to stimulate traveling to Dominica to provide and create opportunities for our many stakeholders in tourism for their livelihood," stated the permanent secretary.

Besides this, she stated that the safe in nature is a certificate programme and assures tourists that they can be safe in nature.
