General elections of the Commonwealth of Dominica are fast approaching by the year 2020. For these elections, political parties are working hard to impact the voters towards themselves. On Sunday 18th of August, Dominica Labour Party launched its candidate for Marigot Constituency. The massive launch event of candidate Gregory “Karessah” Riviere had an enormous reaction from the individuals of Marigot.
The candidate of DLP from his many years of study and other training has garnered and gained immense knowledge and is equipped with proficient in several disciplines. He possesses more than 15 disciplines in his knowledge including Economics for Managers (Micro and Macro), Human Resource Management, Industrial Relations, Public Administration, Managing Government Finance, Organizational Behaviour, Strategic Management, Managing Change and Innovation, Marketing, Public Policy, Advance Policy Analysis and several others.
Despite what might be expected, his competitor in Marigot, United Workers Party leader Lennox Linton was educated at the Marigot Government School and Dominica Grammar School, sources revealed.
[caption id="attachment_21653" align="alignnone" width="750"] UWP leader and Parliamentary Representative from Marigot Constituency, Lennox Linton[/caption]Whereas, Gregory holds a Master of Public Administration Degree as well as a Master of Management Degree, both from the University of Canberra in Australia. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Management Studies from the University of the West Indies.
Additionally, he holds a Certificate in Youth Work from the Commonwealth Youth Programme. He completed a ‘Working with Adolescence’ Course with the University of the West Indies, a Multidisciplinary Leadership Course from the Youth Division here in Dominica, a course in Music Theory from the Associated Board of the Royal School of Music and, as most of you would be aware, he attended the St. Andrews High School, from which he graduated with quite a few CXC’s.
According to various sources, UWP leader Lennox Linton was born in 1972 at Roseau and was elected as representative for the constituency of Marigot on December 8 in the year 2014 for the first time to kick off his political career as 'Parl Rep'. A political stalwart revealed that it's been more than 3 decades that Linton was full time employed with Colgate Palmolive organisation. Also, he worked as an announcer and news reporter.
Quite the opposite, DLP’s Karessah has long listed experience certificates, which makes him surpass the UWP leader in the Marigot constituency. The aspirant of becoming ‘Parl Rep’ (Parliamentary Representative) Gregory holds leadership experience in more than 12 position in his service period to the country, which includes, Manager of Parkway Motel, Australia, Delegate – Caribbean Confederation of Credit Unions, President - Marigot Cooperative Credit Union, Board Member - Dominica Cooperative Societies League and number of positions which also add his supervision in the implementation of a number of projects funded by regional and international agencies i.e. USAID, OECS, UNDP and UNICEF.
UWP leader Lennox Linton might have the political mileage as he is aspirant of Prime Minister designation and also a leader of Opposition will get him to lift in receiving votes, yet it will not be a piece of cake for Lennox to retain his position as Parl Rep of the people of Marigot. When education, experience in both leadership and organisational structure was compared of these two candidates, the result came out to be astonishingly peripheral.
