EU UK and Caricom
Caribbean: The United Nations General Assembly unanimously voted to reprimand Russia for invading Ukraine, demanding that Moscow cease fighting and evacuate its military forces, a move aimed at diplomatically isolating Russia at the UN. The Caribbean region has also stood by the UK and the European Union to demand peace in the ongoing conflict and has announced restrictions against Russia for invading.  UK High Commissioner to Barbados & Eastern Caribbean, Scott Furssedonn-Wood officially tweeted that over 141 countries have voted in favour of the UN resolution against Russian aggression in Ukraine, which includes almost all Eastern Caribbean nations such as Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Dominica, Grenada, St Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia and St Vincent and the Grenadines.

In action against Russia, Caribbean countries offering the Citizenship by Investment Programme have temporarily ceased the processing of applications from Russia and Belarus due to security and safety concerns. According to a statement by Antigua and Barbuda government, the citizenship by investment unit has been keenly following the events transpiring in Ukraine since the commencement of Russian military action in the country. “The rapidly evolving and deteriorating conditions and the ever-expanding list of Russian sanctions compel us to acknowledge that it has been increasingly challenging for us to operate in these jurisdictions.” “We have been advised by our due diligence providers that their ability to conduct investigations in Russia, Belarus has been severely impacted.” It is well aware that a comprehensive due diligence review in the country of birth and residence of all applicants is a fundamental component of assessing eligibility for citizenship. Given these developments, the ability to ascertain the suitability of these applicants at the same time is significantly restricted.  “The CIU, therefore, advice that new applications originating from the aforementioned countries will not be accepted and processed at this time. As the situation changes, further information will be provided accordingly,” the official letter reads.  The Commonwealth of Dominica as well as St Kitts and Nevis also announced with immediate effect that all new applications from Russians and Belarusians would not be processed, stating that the measure is geared to safeguarding the global community and securing the integrity of the country’s CBI Programmes. Prime Minister of Dominica, Roosevelt Skerrit had already condemned the Russian invasion.

It is notable that all 5 jurisdictions of the Caribbean offering the CBI Programme have the world’s most robust due diligence processing and it has over 8 to 10% application rejection rate, states Citizenship by Investment Agent, AAA Associates Immigration Services.  These jurisdictions place a significant priority on citizen safety while ensuring security to the global community. International independent renowned firms thoroughly vet CBI applicants with multi-layer checks on each applicant. All applicants and dependents over the age of 16 are subjected to these checks in order to verify that no illegal persons are awarded citizenship. The due diligence not only investigates criminal conduct but it also scrutinises the financial standards of the applicants.  Most of the Caribbean countries have always stood united with the United Kingdom and Europe as a whole during all times. They are well applauded by many officials of the EU nations.  Head of Delegations of the European Union to Barbados and Eastern Caribbean, Ambassador Malgorzata Wasilewska, also expressed thanks to the OECS countries for supporting the EU against Russia by saying no to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and calling for an end to hostilities.
