Candidates for Nevis election announced
Voters head to the polls on Monday
Wednesday, 13th December 2017
The candidates hoping to win seats at the Nevis election next week have been announced by island’s elections supervisor.
Elvis Bailey made the announcement this week for the vote due to take place on Monday, 18 December.
Leader of the Concerned Citizens Movement Mark Brantley, who took over from outgoing Premier Vance Amory, is hoping to keep his seat in St John / District Two as he goes up against Hensley Daniel of the Nevis Reformation Party.
More than 11,000 people are registered, which Bailey said was a 12% increase the number in 2013.
34 sites will be open for islanders to cast their vote.
“Those of you who know Nevis will realise that we have tried to have voting stations in clusters,” the supervisor said.
“Thus, if you miss your name at one site, you will not have far to go to find it.”
“Nevertheless, our offices on Chapel Street will be open on 16 Saturday between 10am and noon to assist with enquiries concerning these and other matters.
“Also, instructions for voters will be available in the newspapers and posted about the communities. Please study them so you can vote properly come election day.”
Bailey added that he is hoping for a “nice, sunny day.”
