Bridge in Hampstead collapsed, no injuries reported

A bridge affected by Hurricane Maria collapsed on Tuesday evening in Dominica.

New information regarding the Hampstead bridge collapse has surfaced. Public Works Ministry is working out to provide safe and immediate passage from Hampstead Bridge in Calibishie after its collapse on Tuesday evening.

According to information, after the category 5 hurricane Maria made its landfall on Dominica, the Hampstead bridge sustained major damage. With the passage of time soil erosion took place in result of the bridge collapsed.

However, no injuries have been reported yet. Minister of Public Works, Dr John Colin Mclntyre said, “Following the effect of Hurricane Maria, there was quite a bit of undermining and erosion took place.”

Following the collapse of bridge traffic in the area was affected, so the government installed bypass temporary bridge over the river to provide passage to the commuters.

The Minister also mentioned that the government is working up to bring a plan in this regard. He said that the government is looking forward into several options including uplifting the bridge, installing pre-fabricated truss bridge or completely new construction of the bridge.
