A police official in Belize, Arnaldo Ical, has been accused of shoving his wife out of a moving vehicle last weekend. He has been charged and placed on interdiction since his wife reported the incident to officials.
According to the information by Assistant Commissioner of Police Hiberto Romero, Rosa Bol, the wife of Ical, reported to the police that she had a domestic dispute with her husband. He further added that the couple got into a vehicle to go somewhere but at a point along the highway, Arnaldo Ical pushed her out of the moving vehicle after he had punched her in the car.
Romero added that an investigation was carried out, following which the suspect, who is also a police official, was arrested and charged with various crimes of harm and threatening words. In a separate incident, an American national who claimed that the police had shot his brother-in-law last week and then denied him medical attention has pleaded guilty to spreading false news. For this incident, 39-year-old Joseph Anthony Camp was fined BDZ$600 when he appeared in the court.
It is to be noted that Camp is the brother-in-law of 18-year-old Jaylon Jones, who was shot by police on April 10. After the incident, Camp took to social media to report that Jones was shot by officials and was being denied medical access. He further added that he intended to sue the police department for violating his brother-in-law’s rights, but when he appeared in court on Monday along with his lawyer Sharon Pitts, Camp pleaded guilty while his lawyer pleaded to the court seeking mercy for her client whom she said did not want to waste the precious time of the court.
She also said that the charge for which he was before the court was a misdemeanor, which is why it should be dropped.
