Bahamas: Govt to break ground for $290M hospital in mid-2025

Bahamas: In a significant development, the groundbreaking for the government’s $290 Million hospital is now set for mid-2025. This much came from Health and Wellness Minister Doctor Michael Darville during his contribution to this year's fiscal budget debate. During the debate, he outlined that on the rising is the groundbreaking day for the new, state-of-the-art facility on the island of New Providence.

He said it will be located on around 50 acres of land at the New Providence Highway, just eight miles from the Princess Margaret Hospital, if all proceeds as planned.

The Minister noted that the groundbreaking is expected to take place on this facility during the first quarter of the next budget cycle.

He stated that the healthcare infrastructure initiatives undertaken by his ministry is not just about construction, it is about changing and transforming lives.

Now, during a town hall meeting last month, dozen of residents voiced their concern and also their  opposition to the construction of that hospital in the particular area.

The Minister of Health and Wellness, Doctor Michael Darville, pushes that they will be having other town meetings. They invited the general public to again state their case.

He further outlined that his ministry has conducted two town hall meetings to facilitate public discussions and feedback regarding the plan for the New Providence Hospital. Both town meetings were well attended and the public is fully advised and they were engaged.

The next step will be town hall meetings by the Ministry of Environment, tentatively scheduled for the 20th of this month at 7 p.m. at C.C. Sweeting High School, located in the Greater Chippenham constituency.

He encouraged the residents to once again come out and to listen to the experts and also state their concerns. He is maintaining that this hospital is necessary for the overall development of the health sector and the country as a whole.
