Monday, 20th July 2020

Prime Minister of Dominica addressed the country in his weekly talk show "Anou Palay" where he discussed the reopening of borders and other issues concerning the general public and their safety.

Dominica has reopened its borders from July 15 onwards to bring back citizens stuck on foreign lands because of COVID-19, while the country will be open for all travellers from August 07 onwards.

Prime Minister stated that there are clearly defined protocols that are mandatory for all travellers to follow during and after their arrival in the country.

"All protocols are designed to ensure the safety of every single Dominican citizen, as the possibility of coronavirus infection remains a real threat. I welcome home the Dominican who arrived since then," added Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit.

Prime Minister also answered the general queries of citizens on reopening of borders, while answering the questions, the leader added that "As the protocols suggest you get testing done 24 to 72 hours before they arrived in the country, however, discussions with the health ministry are undergoing to extend the period to 7 days."

Dr Skerrit stated that the decision of increasing the period to seven days is not yet achieved. Still, it will be declared once the instructions of the health ministry arrive until then protocols of 24 hours to 72 hours would remain in effect.

In answer to another question concerning the recruitments in the police force, the Prime Minister stated that he had been advised that applications are being accepted and some applicants are getting screened if anyone is interested in joining the police force they might proceed with applying with the chief of police.

After resuming office once again in December 2019 the Dominica Labour Party lead government started a new portfolio titled 'Digital Economy' as part of the promise of making a 'Dynamic Dominica'.
