461 received second dose of COVID-19 vaccine in Dominica

National Epidemiologist Dr Shalauddin Ahmed stated that 17,800 doses of coronavirus vaccine have been administered in Dominica, while 461 people have received their second dose of vaccine.

Roseau, Dominica: National Epidemiologist of Dominica stated on Friday that Dominica only has six active cases of COVID-19. Dr Ahmed made the remarks during the Health Ministry's briefing on the coronavirus pandemic.  Dr Shalauddin Ahmed stated that 163 people have recovered from COVID-19 in Dominica, while no virus-related deaths have been recorded.  Also read: Dominica gets 28,800 doses of Astrazeneca vaccine from COVAX He noted that all the six active COVID-19 cases are imported and diagnosed on arrival or day five testing at the quarantine facility. "Most positive cases came from the United States of America, that had valid negative PCR results prior to arrival in Dominica, they are asymptomatic", added Dr Shalauddin Ahmed.  Also read: Only 7 active COVID-19 cases in Dominica with no deaths He also noted that several cases did have a COVID1-19 infection in the recent past, and so their current positive status may not be a result of an illness; it could be likely because of the viral residues.  Vaccine campaign in Dominica National Epidemiologist Dr Shalauddin Ahmed stated that 17,800 doses of coronavirus vaccine have been administered in Dominica, while 461 people have received their second dose of vaccine.  He added that there have not been any reported severe side effects due to the COVID-19 vaccine in Dominica. AstraZeneca blood-clotting issue Dr Ahmed stated the WHO global advisory committee on vaccine safety met virtually on the 16th and 19th of March 2021 to review the available information.  Based on a careful and scientific review of the available information, the sub-committee stated that the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine has tremendous potential to prevent coronavirus infection and reduce deaths worldwide. He noted that the available data do not suggest any blood-clotting issues.  Referring to the data of the World Health Organization, Dr Ahmed stated that the problems that have been experienced by some people after the vaccine are natural and does not concern the vaccine.
