Former St Kitts and Nevis national team player Atiba Harris have been elected as the President of St Kitts and Nevis Football Association.

Former St Kitts and Nevis national team player Atiba Harris have been elected as the President of St Kitts and Nevis Football Association. The appointment was made at the 2021 SKNFA Ordinary Congress held at Marriot, St Kitts, on Sunday.

Out of the 26 available votes, Harris received 15 votes, while his challenger Don Grant received 11 votes. Grant was the first vice president of the outgoing SKNFA executive. During the association elections,

Shawn White was elected first vice president and Cuthbert Caines second vice president.

In his first address as President, Mr Harris congratulated his fellow executive members and promised a high standard of football in the country.

"We look forward to raising the standard of football in St Kitts and Nevis. It will be with inclusion, equality, justice everywhere on board, both in St Kitts and Nevis," said the newly elected President of SKNFA.

Harris said he is looking forward to any support from the general public and football enthusiasts.

Speaking shortly after the congress, Harris said that his team is bringing some new ideas to the table, will try to build on the gains already made by the former executive.

He also applauded the former Football Association President for their great work towards uplifting the sports in the country.

Atiba Harris said he strongly believes St Kitts and Nevis can qualify for a Youth World Cup because of raw talent. He said he would also concentrate on empowering and bettering Women's football.

The newly elected President said he would look at the current state of the various programs to determine the step forward. Meanwhile, however, he stressed that the SKNFA leagues would start as soon as they received the green light from the health authorities.

He said the preliminary date had been set for September 18, but the event will only depend on the scene as the world is still in a pandemic
