Grenada: A 14-year-old female was found dead on the sister island of Carriacou on Friday. The victim's stepfather, a 31-year-old businessman, John Alexis, found her in a church property, following which he took her to the Princess Royal Hospital.

As investigations continue into the untimely death of the schoolgirl, initial findings from Sunday's post-mortem have sent shockwaves across the community as it indicated signs of foul play.

The post-mortem was conducted by Pathologists Dr Mabel Lean Alvarez and Dr Godwin Coy, who uncovered evidence which suggested that the teen had fractured bones, bruises and signs of struggle on her body.

According to the reports, the student at the Hillsborough Secondary School, Esther Patterson, was allegedly murdered. Her stepfather said that he found her at Pastor Happy's Brunswick church in a state of unconsciousness, leaning against a wall.

The stepfather said that sometime after nine on Friday morning, he left her daughter off in the town of Hillsborough and gave her some money to pay for the bus ride home from school, but when the girl did not come, he went to look for her and found her in a brutal manner.

A source revealed that, "It was clear that she struggled for her life." The doctor who examined the girl revealed that she saw bruises and bloodstains inside Esther's vagina and aggressive marks around her neck as well as inside her mouth.

Following the completion of the postmortem, a poignant candlelight vigil was held in honour of the young victim on the grounds of the Thy Kingdom Come Sanctuary, where her body was discovered.

The man who initially reported finding her remains remained under police interrogation at the time of the vigil. Hailing from mainland Grenada, he has been a person of interest in the investigation.

Additionally, reports suggest that a Trinidadian acquaintance of the individual is also cooperating with authorities.
