$127M East Coast Road Project progresses steadily in Dominica, PM Skerrit shares glimpses

The ongoing East Coast Road Project in the Commonwealth of Dominica is progressing steadily. Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit shared glimpses of significant developments which took place recently on the project site.

PM Skerrit said that the construction continues on the section of road stretching from Castle Bruce to Hatton Garden through the Kalinago Territory. The 127 million dollars project is funded by the World Bank under the DVRP – Disaster Vulnerability Reduction Project and includes 4 Lots which are as follows:

• Lot 1 from Pont Casse from to Bois Diable
• Lot 2 from Bois Diable to Castle Bruce
• Lot 3 from Castle Bruce to Petite Soufrière
• Lot 4 from Castle Bruce to Hatton Garden

According to the information, the project is in its final stage of construction. In the latest glimpses shared by PM Skerrit, a visible development can be seen on the road which spreads from Bois Diable to Castle Bruce.

This 6 mile long route will be featuring slope stabilisation, rehabilitation of bridges and retaining walls along with reconstruction of drainage systems.

In addition to this, the Government of Dominica also announced that the main objectives of the project are to improve infrastructure resilience to disaster events and boost climate change adaptation measures via rehabilitation of roads, bridges and retaining walls, slope stabilization interventions, as well as construction drainage systems.

The Government has always shown commitment to develop a proper road network in Dominica which is capable of moving citizens, visitors and the goods they use from one point to another.

This 43.3 km of East Coast Road Project is one of such developments and is the biggest road projects being undertaken in the island nation.

After seeing the continuous progress on the project, the citizens and residents have also lauded the government and PM Skerrit for their commitment towards making the country the world’s first climate-resilient nation.
